Never try to fit into a particular scene. Be true to your art and do it because you love it. The minute you change yourself and your art to fit a trend in the hope of being successful you've lost everything that song writing and making music is about. When you do this your not creating your copying. Put simply your riding the coattails of someone else's innovation and courage to be different. Have the balls to be yourself, and if you don't sound like everything else on the radio don't see it as a need to change. Your uniqueness is your greatest asset and the bedrock of your style.
